We don't have cable, so I have to get my World Cup (Copa Mundial) fix via Univision. This works out most of the time, except for when there's when there's a weird call like in the US vs Slovenia game, and it's not totally obvious what's happening. And, it goes without saying, the Spanish announcers are WAY more interesting to listen to than the stiff-upper-lip English ones.
Anyway, I put the kids down for a nap yesterday, and sat down to watch the game. On the score graphic, it was ESP vs CHI. The ESP team's uniforms were black, red, and yellow so I caught on pretty quick that it was Spain. The CHI team's uniforms were bright red, so I immediately concluded that it was China. Our TV isn't that big, so it took me a while before I started seeing that the CHI players didn't really look Chinese... they looked Hispanic. A Hispanic country that starts with CHI....? Is there one? Does it start with CHI in Spanish and not English?
I won't tell you how long it took me to figure this one out because anything longer than 3 seconds is just embarrassing.

I would guess Chile but that's only because I made a(n inadvertently) blazing chili for a work potluck yesterday and subjected everyone to it...
You can watch all the games on ESPN3 (online) if you qualify. They actually have a bunch of different languages Korean among them.
Wasn't it Switzerland or something?
Don't worry, it took me FOREVER to figure out COI. I was sounding it out and everything.
Bridget, I had to think about your COI for like 2 minutes before I figured it out. At first, I thought you had meant to write COL, but accidentally didn't capitalize the L, and then it would be Columbia. Then I thought about it longer and decided on Côte d'Ivoire. Is that right? I would have abbreviated that CDI, but maybe that's just me.
OK, so I had the exact same problem with CHI, even though I am a Spanish speaker and have been watching some of the matches on Univision myself. (You're right, much better than Americans. Although the British announcers on ESPN 3 are awesome because they use words like 'obdurate'.)
Anyway, I must still be in MLS mode (or have preggo/new mom brain) because I just kept thinking Chicago, and that's all I could think of. It stuck and stuck and I had to ask Kevin to remind me. Embarrassing.
