The rise and fall of the Piper Cub

Some time ago, my brother-in-law gave Tyler an RC airplane. Well, most of an RC plane. It was missing servos, wheels, and a wing. The combination of a lack of a proper hobby shop here in San Luis and Tyler's busy schedule have kept him from making the plane air-worthy until now.

The wing was one he designed and made for one of his classes. As I understand it, it was meant to go on some sort of glider, but Tyler was more than 50% sure it would work for his plane.

There is an RC airfield owned by Cal Poly that is right near our house. I think it's humerous that we have an RC airfield and yet no store within 20 miles that sells parts for RC airplanes.

There were some technical difficulties involving the elevator, the fixing of which, at least this is what Tyler guesses, drained the battery to a degree that was incompatable with take off.

Bugs and replacements

Our apartment is seriously a breeding ground for spiders, and no daddy long-legs either: nasty bitey-type ones. I encounter at least one a day, if not more. This one was in our bathroom last night.

It's getting so bad, I'm starting to hallucinate them crawling all over me when I'm laying in bed.

This mosquito eater (which don't actually eat mosquitos) flew into our apartment two days ago. It got stuck in the bathroom and has been there ever since. I'm not sure why it can't seem to find it's way out. And speaking of odd behavior:

I guess I don't spend enough time with Tyler as he has taken to constructing what he calls "pillow wives" out of my clothes. This one on top is my favorite because it has everything you need close at hand: tums, lotion, and kleenex.

He made this one because I wouldn't sit and watch a movie with him. Posted by Picasa

Avila Beach

It was such a nice day today, we went to Avila Beach. We went down toward the Pirate's Cove side, away from the pier.

Beautiful! I'm going to be so sad when we have to move to somewhere depressing, like Washington or the midwest. Not to say those places are depressing in and of themselves, I'm just going to miss being 10 minutes away from the beach.

Less than a month away. I'm going to be glad to lay on my stomach again.

We left because the fog was starting to roll in, making it about 10 degrees cooler.

I love California. Posted by Picasa

Death in the Family

There has been a tragedy. Tyler has been growing an avocado plant in our bathroom for three months or so now. It's little roots were beginning to be long and strong and even sprout little rootlets. Just this last week, a little bit of green was starting to peek out through the top.

There was a strong gust of wind and I heard a sort of dull thump in the bathroom. I couldn't immagine what it could have been as most things that fall in the bathroom fall into the sink or shower, thus making a more clinky-crashing-type noise.

Tyler was understandably devistated.

Stroller

Aunt Karen has outdone herself again! Tyler was walking out the door on his way to the mailbox to mail in his No Purchase Necessary entry into the KCET Vespa contest when the FedEx man came wheeling a very large box towards our door.

Inside was the very stroller we had been coveting.

Tyler's only complaint was that the directions were not color coded and not to scale.

Sorry I forgot to rotate this one before I loaded it...

It's all ready for the baby! Thank you Karen! Posted by Picasa

Austin's Graduation

My brother graduated with his PhD in physics this past week in Davis. We thought the get together was in the afternoon, so we made a stop at the Oakland temple in the morning. It was a beautiful day and you could see all the way to the Golden Gate bridge. While I always do enjoy going to the temple, I was disappointed as we were severely misinformed as to the time of the get together, and didn't get to spend hardly any time with Austin and his family.

I was glad the graduation was inside as it was hot outside. I didn't get very many good shots of Austin actually graduating and being hooded (is that what they call it?). He's in the fourth row from the right on the right side, sixth back. For some better pictures (and some of my siblings and cute nephews) you can check out the Degenerate Subspace.

Meadow Park

The phone rang at about 1:30 yesterday. Tyler answered, it was our friend Brad. "Hold on, let me ask." He then turned to me and asked if I wanted to go to the park. "To do what?" "Sit in the shade and watch me play baseball." I would have gotten more pictures, but the camera died.

Our Trip to Utah

We spent last weekend in Utah for Tyler's brother's wedding. All in all, it was a good time (except for the fact that I couldn't sleep for more than one hour at a time).

We tooled around Temple Square before the wedding. It was actually quite difficult to get there on account of the Salt Lake City Marathon that was being run in a circle around Temple Square making it impenetrable to cars, busses, and tourists. Here's us in front of the Assembly Hall. I thought this picture had been taken by Tyler's mom (which would have been funny because she made such a fuss over the picture trying to get the right zoom and angle only for it to turn out crooked. But Tyler tells me that he took this one himself after wresting the camera from his mom because she was taking too long.)

In front of the Conference Center
The view from on top of the Conference Center. Notice the temple in the background.

There's Tyler in the middle with the suspenders and his brother Jason is on his right. This is during the pregame show.

Tracy and Tricia were married at Thanksgiving Point, which is in Lehi at the point of the mountain. I can remember when I visited Allison in Utah, she gave me directions using this as a point of reference (towards the point, away from the point, and so forth) but that still doesn't mean I know where it is.

The sunset at Thanksgiving Point. Tyler almost killed me when he tried to hoist me up onto the wall that you can kind of see in the bottom right of the picture as on the other side of the wall there is nothing but a 40 foot drop.
